Chapter 1.
Innovative technologies as Pedagogy.
1.1 Notion of innovative technologies and its importance in FLT.
In modern digital age, the condition of life , formation training and teaching have changed. Everything have been changing around, and accordingly, the attitude towards learning must change. The content of education in a modern kicomprehensive school remains unilateral, state standards based on an objective approach are morally outdated. Many modern teachers point to the lack of a competent approach, focused on the individuality of the student.
Technological innovations are having a significant impact on educational system at all levels. Online courses, teaching aids, educational software, social networking tools, and other emerging technologies are disrupting the traditional classroom environment. There are several features of technology that can be used in learning activities: Audio, video, computer- assisted learning, projector, and word processor programs. Those features provide attractions to the students and can be used to teach the four language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
Technology in language learning has been in constant evolution since its genesis in the 1950s, in part due to attempts to keep up with the ongoing developments in computer technology. The development of technology in language education is also the result of the development of learning theories and pedagogical considerations. Many terms and expressions have emerged, and different theoretical perspectives require different approachs to understand and define the concept. The most widely used variant is CALL( computer- assisted language learning). The use of CALL was agreed at the TESOL 1983. ( Teachers of English to Speakers of other languages).1
Technology has been integrated into second language teachingand learning since the 1960s as a mechanical tutor to train repetitive language drills, the so-called drill-and- practice method. It is only since 2000 that computer technology has been largely used in reading, writing, literacy, and cultural awareness. With the development of multimedia computing and the internet, technology is becoming a vital feature of second language classrooms and the important issue confronting second/foreign language teachers and researchers. Approximately eight new internet users add themselves to growing percentage of language learning as subject per second. The advantage of the INTERNET is that it allows the language to come to the learner rather than a learner having to go to a special place to learn the language. In institutional contexts such as higher education sectors, secondary schools and primary schools, teachers face a generation which has grown up in environment in which they are constantly exposed to computer- based technology; therefore their methods of learning are different from those of previous generations. 2
Technology has become an integral part of teaching and learning in classrooms all around the world. Teachers are nurturing 21st century learners who grow up with computer, gadgets, and internet access. Technology has been an extension of their lives, including their academic pursuits. Technology is of much value of EFL learners. Technology has offered opportunities for students to access wide range of information. Technology has strongly linked with learner autonomy, where students can learn independently their pace or space. It also offers learners more opportunities to collaborate with friends. When the information is not scarce for learners, teachers are challenged to create innovations and provide learners with exciting learning experiences through technology. We can enhance language learning through various digital media. Language teachers can use the Internet to access wealth range of authentic resources, materials, and tasks. Technology also allows teachers to communicate with students outside the classroom walls. Designed for English language teachers and learners, this covers theoretical and practical knowledge of these technical media in language learning. Besides, elaborating on a general overview of teaching media as well as its integration in language learning. 3
