1.1. Gives an introductory information on the main issues that will be discussed during the lecture.

Basic
(50 minutes)

2.1. For the purpose of clarifying the central problem of the lecture the teacher gives a series of questions:

  1. How do you usually find equivalents for the phraseological units in the translating process?

  2. What can you say about the ways of translation of phraseological units?

The teacher makes comments on the students’ answers.

2.2. Presents general information on the typical ways of translation of phraseological units;

2.3. Explains the distinctive features
of word-for-word translation; describes the examples illustrating the use of word-for-word translation of phraseological units; makes comments on the word-for-word reproduction of the SL phraseological units in the TL texts;

2.4 Outlines the distinctive features
of translation by analogy; describes the examples illustrating the use of translation of phraseological units by analogy; makes comments on the reproduction of the SL phraseological units by analogy in the TL;

2.5 Points out the distinctive features
of descriptive translation of phraseological units; gives the examples illustrating the use of descriptive translation of phraseological units; makes comments on the explication of phraseological unit’s figurative meaning;

III-stage
Final stage
(10 minutes)

3.1. Summarizes the main points of the lecture. Gives questions about the phraseological problems of translation (five aspects of phraseological unit’s meaning, factors complicating the adequate identification of idioms; types of phraseological correspondences; ways of translation of phraseological units).

3.2. Analyzes and evaluates the students’ activities in the lecture
