Reflection
I am a second-year student of UzSWLU. During the study, after 4 months of training, practical training was conducted. Practicum was held for 2 weeks. For two weeks, we monitored the English language teaching processes of professional teachers. For their students, English was the target language. In addition, our internship teacher Miss Baybabayeva Shoira provided us with articles written by teachers on methodology and English language teaching in each lesson. I think I have been able to improve my skills and knowledge through these two weeks of classes and articles and it will be a great help to me for my future career. The first lesson was an introductory lesson. In it, Miss Shoira explained to us what to do in two weeks.
I have just finished my first practicum in five classrooms. This practicum taught me so much. At first, I did not expect my practicum experience to influence my career goals.I have learnt how to assess and treat students based on the knowledge developed during my practicum. The most important learning I took aback is creating engaging lessons can be a form of classroom management itself. Creating fun and hands-on learning experiences will result in students being interested, which in turn results in students becoming active participants in their own learning. Furthermore, I could learn a great deal of information in a classroom, but not all of it is applicable to my professional future. After completing a practicum, I have had a much better understanding of what is relevant and what is purely academic. This applies to both information that I have already learned ,as well as new material in future courses.I really liked Eugene Permiakov’s demo lesson during these 5 observations. I learned so much from this teacher. For example , setting relevant instructions before handing out the actual worksheets, having students use hand gestures in order to get feedback. Plus , I have learnt how to utilise jigsaw reading method during session. This technique was new for me , and I could become aware of how to use this approach in class.
As difficult as it was in the process of doing each job, I also faced a number of challenges during my practicum. First, there were problems with the internet because the classes were online. Lack of electricity, poor internet connection caused me to skip one online lesson. Secondly, during the observation process, I had some hesitations while evaluating the coursework in the video tutorials. Despite these difficulties, I tried to complete all the tasks on time, I think I managed to do it and I was able to increase my professional knowledge.
Practicum was the opportunity for me learning useful employment skills on real jobs under actual working conditions.I learned a lot about professionalism, setting goals and what to do in certain work-related situations. I believe going through this practicum experience got me to become a little more confident in the work I do. This will also help in the future as I am better prepared for what will be expected in a work environment.
Watching experienced teachers was overwhelming for me.By using this Guided Observation Model, I could begin to break down the tools and techniques used by experienced teachers into the theory and practice. Additionally, I could think of alternative methods of carrying out activities. To sum up , practicum time gave me confidence , as well as better practical environment on my way to become a strong language teacher in the future. I will try to utilise all extraordinary and beneficial techniques and methods for my future students as a well-organised professional educator.
