Hard Disk Drive/ Solid-State Drive

Handling the hard disk drive or solid-state 

drive 

When you handle the hard disk drive or solid-state drive, observe the following 

precautions to avoid any possible damage: 

  Keep the hard disk drive or solid-state drive in the static-protective 

package until you are ready to install the drive in a computer. If you have 

to place the hard disk drive or  

solid-state drive on a surface, place the static-protective package on a 

clean, flat  

surface, and then place the hard disk drive or solid-state drive on the 

package with the component side facing up. 

  Handle the hard disk drive or solid-state drive with care. Dropping or 

jarring the hard disk drive or solid-state drive can damage the inside 

components. 

  Limit your movement. Movement can cause static electricity to build up 

around you. 

  Handle the hard disk drive or solid-state drive by the edges. 

  Do not subject the hard disk drive or solid-state drive to physical shocks. 

  Do not touch any exposed circuitry or pins on the hard disk drive or solid-

state drive. 

  Do not apply pressure to the cover of the hard disk drive or solid-state 

drive. 

Attention:

The hard disk drive or solid-state drive is sensitive. Incorrect 

handling can cause damage and permanent loss of data. Before removing the 

hard disk drive or solid-state drive, ensure that you back up all the information 

on the hard disk drive or solid-state drive, and then turn off the computer. 

Never remove the hard disk drive or solid-state drive while the computer is 

working, in standby mode, or in hibernation mode.
