Detached constructions
Sometimes one of the secondary members of the sentence is placed so that it 
seems formally independent of the word it refers to. Being formally independent this 
secondary member acquires a greater degree of significance and is given prominence 
by intonation. e.g.:
She was gone. 
For good
.
But a detached phrase cannot rise to the rank of primary of the sentence – it 
always remains secondary from semantic point of view, although structurally it 
possesses all the features of a primary member[63].

This isolation is achieved with the help of stress, commas, dash and even a full 
stop. In oral speech it is achieved with the help of intonation. From grammatical point 
of view those secondary parts are closely connected with the primary parts of the 
sentence:

Detached constructions breaks the ordinary word order in the English sentence 
and in this way isolates the secondary parts of the sentences. This isolated part, 
bringing independence to words and word combinations, becomes stylistic 
significant: 
 “She admired her husband, 
strong, brave and victorious
”
(W. Thackeray). 
Detachment

the sentence with the help of punctuation (intonation), so that it seems formally 
independent of the word it refers to. Being formally independent this secondary

DC 
as an SD is a 
typification of the syntactical peculiarities of colloquial language. Function: to focus 
the reader’s attention [63]. 
A variant of DC is 
parenthesis 
(вводное слово или предложение) – is a 
qualifying, explanatory or appositive word, phrase, clause, sentence, or other 
sequence which interrupts a syntactic construction without otherwise affecting it, 
having often a characteristic intonation and indicated in writing by commas, brackets 
or dashes[20]. It gives the utterance an additional nuance of meaning or a tinge of 
emotional colouring.
