Part IV. Attempt and Preparation 
Section 45 
1. An attempt to commit a serious offence shall be punishable if the intention of the offender has 
revealed itself by a commencement of the performance of the criminal act. 
2. In the case of an attempt, the maximum of the principal punishments set for the serious offence 
shall be reduced by one third.

3. In the case of a serious offence punishable by life imprisonment, a term of imprisonment not 
exceeding twenty years shall be imposed. 
4. The additional punishments for attempt shall be the same as for the completed serious offence.
