Welcome to West Miami Middle School! I would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child to my class and to inform you of the course policies and procedures. I will work very diligently to deliver instruction in a most effective manner. I know that you have high expectations for your child. Together, we can maximize his/her success.

Course Description: #1205070: M/J Pre- Algebra:
Instructional time will focus on three critical areas 1)formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association in bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations and systems of linear equations; 2)grasping the concept of a function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships; 2)analyzing two- and three dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem.
Classroom Rules:

All WMMS rules will apply and the Progressive Discipline Plan will be followed.

Students are expected to arrive on time, have all necessary materials and be seated when the bell rings. They are to begin working on the Start-Up activities immediately.

Follow directions the first time they are given.

Respect others at all times.

Refrain from personal grooming and from chewing gum.

ABSOLUTELY NO use of cell/phones or other electronic devices unless such is part of the instructional activity.
Grading Policy:
Conduct and effort grades are awarded separately from academic grades. These are affected by tardiness, lack of respect towards the teacher or other students, lack of preparation for class, improper classroom behavior and breaking of rules.
The MDCPS grading scale will be used for all assignments:
A=90-100% (3.5-4.0)
B=80-89% (2.5-3.49)
C=70-79% (1.5-2.49)
D=60-69% (1.0-1.45)
F=0-0.59% (0-0.9)
Assignments will be weighted as follows:
Classwork: 1 grade
Home Learning: 1 grade
I-Ready Lessons: 1 grade
Notebook check: 1 grade bi-weekly or every 10 classes
Quizzes: 1 grade
Tests: 2 grades
Projects/Presentations: grading depends on length and complexity of assignment
Missing Assignments due to Excused Absences: Students may make up missed work upon return, as per MDCPS Policy. It is the student’s responsibility to request assignments for their absences immediately upon their return. This includes circumstances whereby they leave school early and iss the Math class.
