When combined with the cost of equipment, uniforms, and additional team
fees, the average total cost for a child’s participation in sports was $381.
Nineteen percent of families making under $60,000 reported that costs had
led to at least one of their children being unable to participate in sports.
Figure 6-7 shows the study results regarding participation in school sports
among youth aged 12-17 by household income. The study found further
