GREAT BRITAIN
Great Britain is situated on a large island lying to the west of Europe. It consists of England, Scotland and Wales.
Long ago the greater part of the country was covered with forests. Now there are practically no forests there, but there are very many trees that give beauty to the countryside. Some parts of England are really beautiful. There are very many rivers, lakes, hills and mountains there. The rivers in Britain are not long. Many of them are joined by canals, so that it is quite possible to travel by water from one end of England to the other. The rivers never freeze there. In winter there is much rain and few sunny days. The summers are never very hot, and there is often much rain. One of the chief reasons for such a mild climate in Great Britain is that a stream of warm water, called the Gulf Stream, washes the northern coast of the country. London is the capital of England. It is also the capital of the United Kingdom, which consists of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Manchester, Liverpool and Sheffield are big towns of England. The capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast.

Gaz truck.
New components are to be found on the GAZ truck. The GAZ truck of the Gorky Automobile Works carries great payloads. To support these payloads, the front and rear suspension of the truck utilize more rigid spring compared to preceding models. The front suspension incorporates reinforced telescopic shock absorbers with new gland sealings of the arm and hydraulic fluid tank.
The steering gear has been reinforced through the increased 35 mm diameter of the pitman arm. The triple-grooved roller rotates on a roller bearing.
The truck GAZ is powered by a water-cooled 8-cylinder petrol V-engine. With a displacement of 4.25 lit the engine delivers 127 hp at 3.200 r.p.m. (with speed governor). Engine torque is 29 kg.m. at 2.000 to 2.200 r.p.m.: compression ratio 6.7.
The power unit on the new model has some advantages-greater power rating, more economy, longer life and a more compact design.
The increased power rating was achieved by a more efficient engine filling, a higher compression ratio and greater crankshaft speed. To secure better engine filling the engine designers increased the inlet channel section and inlet valve diameter, utilized a double-barrel carburetor and provided for the most efficient gas distribution phases.
From the economic point of view the engine has advantages. The minimum specific fuel consumption of the GAZ engine is 230 g/hp/hr. The engine designers paid a good deal of attention to longer engine life. The service life of the individual engine parts and power unit as a whole was increased by means of a completely new design, the use of new materials, an up-to-date arrangement of parts and a short piston stroke. The new engine is noted for the extensive use of aluminium castings in its construction, which include the cylinder block, block head, inlet pipe, breaker-distributor drive housing, the covers of the gear and of the oil pump housing, and the thermostat connection pipe. All of these pats are made with Selumin A1-4.
