The role of Phonology in language
Phonology deals with sound structure in individual languages: the way distinctions in sound are used to differentiate linguistic items, and the ways in which the sound structure of the 'same' element varies as a function of the other sounds in its context.
In other words, phonetics is about sounds of language, phonology about sound systems of language. Phonetics is a descriptive tool necessary to the study of the phonological aspects of a language. Phonetics and phonology are worth studying for several reasons.
Phonology is the study of how speech sounds function as a system, and phonological analysis involves analyzing the sound systems of languages.
Phonological analysis
Any phonetician should look upon his science primarily as a study of the spoken form of the language. To study the sounds of a language from the functional or phonological point of view means to study the way they function, that is, to find out which sounds a language uses as part of its pronunciation system, how sounds are grouped into functionally similar units, termed phonemes. The final aim of the phonological analysis is the identification of the phonemes and finding out the patterns of relationship into which they fall as the sound system of that language.
The aim of Phonological Analysis is to determine which differences of sounds are phonemic or non-phonemic and to find inventory of the phonemes of the language. Phonology is the study of how speech sounds function as a system, and phonological analysis involves analyzing the sound systems of languages. ... To distinguish these from standard spelling, square brackets [ ] are used around a phonetic transcription, that is, the symbols representing speech sounds. Phonological approach studies the sound system as a set of relationships and oppositions which have functional value.
So, the aim of the phonological analysis is

1) firstly, to determine which differences of sounds are phonemic and which are non – phonemic, and

2) secondly, to find the inventory of the phonemes of the language.
