Entry 1: Summary of Listening

Topic: Psychology

Dweck (2014), explored the "growth mindset" concept and retells its impact on peoples performance in her speech "The power of believing that you can improve". She claims that two different ways of thinking differently influences the problem solving of hard tasks.

The researcher reveals that some students catastrophically react to several tests' difficulty and give up early on solving the problem. However, some students positively reacted to a difficult test given by Dweck, they believed that this test will be very useful and their ability and skills improve over time.

The researches are done by different professors show that students with bad marks after the test will decide to cheat in the future instead of studying better, other students will search for students who performed worse than them, since they could feel better about themselves.

The concept of "not yet" should be implemented through praises of their engagement in the process, not for their result. For example, a created game that awards for their progress and perseverance gave the confidence in their ability to win. In one study, students were told that neurons in the brain become more resilient and help students become smarter when they believe in the concept of "not yet" while solving difficult problems. Thus, this concept helped millions of students with poor grades began to perform well.

In conclusion, people from childhood should be awarded for their hard work, not for their result and it will positively affect their performance in the future.
