Activity 1d

Objective: to ask and answer about sporting achievements; to revise dates PP work in pairs asking and answering. If your class is slow, do the activity as a class activity. If your PP are strong, you could do a couple of examples with the class and then let PP work in closed pairs.

Language Note: Remind PP how to say the years in English: nineteen-ninety nine; two thousand; two thousand and one. Language Note: The sentence 'What competitions did the brothers take part in 1999?' is correct. The verb is 'to take part in (a competition)' and for dates we say 'in 1999'. The result is 'in in' which is correct.

Ask PP to look at the Remember box, explain how 'since' is used with a point in time (you can ask PP to look in the Grammar Reference 6), and then do Grammar Exercise 3.
