Andijan
Andijan is located in the Fergana Valley and covers an area of 4.2 thousand square kilometers. Its population is over 2 million 756 thousand people (as of January 1, 2013). The population of the cities is more than 1 million 453 thousand people. The rural population is over 1 million 302 thousand people. Andijan region has 14 districts, 11 cities and 78 towns.
Andijan region is the easternmost region of the country. The administrative center is the city of Andijan. The western part of the region consists of hills, the eastern part is connected with mountain ranges.
The main branches of agriculture: cotton, grain, vegetables, horticulture, viticulture, meat and dairy farming, silkworm breeding.
Major industries: electricity, machinery, light industry, food industry.
The region's agriculture is developed. There is almost no land left to be developed. The gross yield of cotton is being increased only by increasing yields. Vegetables, potatoes and melons are grown mainly around cities. Horticulture plays an important role in agriculture. The gardens and vineyards are expanding only at the expense of the hills. There are specialized horticultural farms.
Sheep and goats make up the bulk of the herd. Cattle are raised mainly for milk and meat. Silkworm breeding is an important part of the regional economy.
The province is also highly industrialized, with more than 160 industrial enterprises. Among the enterprises are Andijan Car Seat Plant, Irrigation Machinery Plant, Semurg Knitwear Joint-Stock Company. The enterprises are mainly located in the Andijan industrial hub. The region receives electricity from the integrated energy system of the economic geographical region. A 100,000-kilowatt hydroelectric power plant has been built at the Kampirravot reservoir.
Andijan is one of the first oil centers in the country. The oil will be piped to refineries in Fergana province. The largest underground gas storage facility in the country has been built in Khojaabad. The gas will also be delivered to Andijan and Asaka.
Cities. Andijan is located in the center of obikor farming. Oil, gas and construction materials fields are right next to the city. There are about 40 enterprises of heavy, light and food industries in the city. Among them are cotton mills, textile and knitting factories, the largest enterprises in the country. Silk weaving enterprises are provided with cocoons by regional silkworms. Andijan State University has institutes of medicine, agriculture and engineering in the city. There are many theaters, libraries, sports grounds, parks and gardens. Even in the time of the Baburids, Andijan was a city with a developed economy, science and education. Asaka is the automotive hub of the country. The plant also produces new cars such as Lacetti, Chevrolet Epica, Chevrolet Captiva, Malibu and Cobolt. The city of Asaka is located at the foot of a mountain where the Shahrikhansay River flows. The city is surrounded by cotton fields, orchards and vineyards. There are oil and gas fields in the Shahrihansay valley. In addition to the automobile plant, the city has cotton and oil mills, other enterprises of the light and food industries, glass and oxygen plants, enterprises producing construction materials. There are many cultural and educational institutions. The city is located on the roads of Andijan, Fergana and Margilan.
