REFLECTIVE WRITING

Description

I made practice in the 23rd school in the district of Bandikhan in Surkhandarya learning how to teach English language to various groups of pupils. At first, I mainly assisted the class and started planning, delivering a small part of the lesson .Furthermore, I thought about free time lessons for children who have some hardships with English and are interested in this subject. This decision was actually motivational for me, because I fond of working with children. When I shared my intend with my practical teacher, he highly appreciated and even helped me himself during organizing this group, owing to the fact that he had not free time setting up such kind of groups till then. Besides that, I took part in most English lessons regularly, trying to catch up new methods, technics and warming up games from the teachers. One day I started my first lesson with teaching 10th class. When I got to the board, I was really excited and a bit nervous that I began speaking with worries and hesitation. Pupils were quite understanding , as they are all teenagers who were aware that I was new teacher.

On the other hand, I tried to get to know more about teachers’ documents and rules which are demanded at school. As well as, I also encouraged my teachers in composing scenarios of school celebrations.

Feelings


When I first thought about my teaching, I went through my emotions .It started with excitement because that I meant I was that much closer to graduating. I had so many questions running through my mind. I was terrified my pupils would not understand me. What I was going to do if I was not able to be the kind of teacher I had hoped I would be? When the time came for me to begin my teaching , all I could do was hope and pray that things went smoothly. Soon I found out that any worries I had were no longer an issue. I went to a school that was filled with caring and supportive people. If I had a question, they had an answer. If they did not know, they found someone who did. Even teacher that I had no contact with were there to make me feel comfortable and respected. My cooperating teachers sat down with me and helped me reflect on how I was doing. I was expecting to get along with my pupils and my cooperating teachers , but my experience went above and beyond any expectations I had in the beginning. I learned more than ever imagined I would. I have come to realize I could not have had a better teaching experience than the one I had at this school.

Evaluation

According to my practice, I definitely say that controlling teenagers is the biggest hurdle for each newcomer like me. Nevertheless, I did my best to be more strict, give more relevant information related to each new topic and find smth new or interesting method for the lesson. Moreover, I tried to be well prepared and more confident. All of these came in handy to have more effective lessons and gain reputation among pupils as a teacher. Otherwise, time management was also complicated section for me. That is why, besides giving explanations about the new topic and doing some exercises, checking the pupils’ hometasks was really time-consuming. After that, I decided to ask whomever I want because of the restriction of time. By the way, pupils began to be always ready for tasks thinking they might be asked.

When I set up English tutoring, I had 8 children who want to learn intensely. These pupils were high functioning and took part in the lessons without any absence. We did activities revolving around social skills and communication. My main objective for them was to enable them to effectively communicate with others around them.

Additionally, I was attached with 4th class and its formmaster became my cooperative teacher during my practice on my first day at school. This class was unlike any other I had observed. These pupils were very intelligent, but lacked social skills that other children on their age possess. One activity I did with my pupils on a daily basis was circle time. This circle time was different then what is done in a regular classroom. In addition to the regular calendar and singing, I would include a social story. These stories were about daily living skills, such as brushing your teeth and taking a bath. They also discussed communication skills, such as how to stand someone when having conversation and how to share toys.

During my first placement, I taught my students a unit on personal safety. For the first activity in this unit , the children worked on learning their personal information, such as their full name, phone number, address and parents’ names . Part of this unit required the pupils to take turns asking each other about their information . This activity was wonderful ! The children made progress in their conversation skills as the weeks went on. They learned that when you talk to someone, it is important to look them in the eye.



Conclusion

Lastly, I can say that I found out a great number of things from my practice at school and acquired some qualifications for teaching after graduation. As well as I am grateful with my cooperative teachers who assisted as much as they can to my incomprehensible questions and gave their noble advice about teaching. In one word, this practice was precious experience for my future job.
