Task 2
In some countries an increasing number of people are suffering from health problems as a result of eating too much fast food. It is therefore necessary for governments to impose a higher tax on this kind of food.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In recent years, people are facing too many problematic health issues due to excessive consumption of fast food in certain countries around the world. Some people argue that governments should increase fast food taxes to bring this in control. However, I completely disagree with this view as effective methods could be considered to tackle this problem.
In my opinion, higher tax may be seemed beneficial to both economic and health issues. In the first place, the tax could help to fund the healthcare system to pay for the treatment of people who have caused their own illnesses because of their choice of fast food. For example, in some countries such as Australia and Britain, the healthcare system spends a large part of its budget on people with diet-related health problems by imposing a junk food tax. In addition, a federal government in the USA have already implemented a junk food tax in order to counter increasing obesity. Ultimately, it is likely to be a key determinant of the successful reduction in the fight against the consumption of the fast food.
On the other hand, fast food contains some ingredients which are extremely harmful to the human body. Such ingredients should be banned by the government to deal with the health problems arising out of its consumption. For instance, there are many toxic ingredients lurking in fast food, including calcium sulfate, phosphate additives and propylene glycol. Thus, health specialists must carry out the research which finds out using another substances instead of them. This measure will be more effective than imposing the tax on fast food. Moreover, health education may be more a sensible strategy, which means that children need to learn about the risks of fast food. They need to be educated from an early age, especially at school how to eat and have a healthy diet.
In conclusion, it is clear to me that implementing tax will not be useful for solving the health issues arising out of excessive consumption of fast food, but professional scientists in the healthcare system and health education will have an huge impact on consuming fast food excessively.
