TITLE: Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad.
Introduction
On the surface, it may appear weird that some people would travel hundreds, if not thousands, of kilometers to study abroad when they could easily enroll in a similar course in their own nation. On the inside, however, there are numerous valid reasons why people may want to cross borders in order to pursue a degree, diploma, or certificate program that is not easily available in their own country.
Many students in the twenty-first century believe that graduating from any educational institution is rarely enough. Students prefer to study in internationally known universities since they provide better prospects and exposure for future career endeavors. However, there are a slew of difficulties and issues that come with studying abroad. The goal of this paper is to examine the benefits and drawbacks of studying abroad.
As previously said, there are numerous advantages of studying abroad. To begin with, foreign institutions provide a diverse range of courses, some of which may not be available in your native country. Students have an advantage in selecting courses that are tailored to their interests and market needs because of the large range. Many students from developing nations prefer to study abroad since many of the courses available in their native countries are no longer relevant to the needs and requirements of the labor market. Students who study abroad will have a competitive advantage over their counterparts who prefer to study at home in this regard, as they will have the opportunity to select courses that are customized to fit the specific needs of the job market.
Second, the experience gained while studying abroad helps individuals later in life in their social and professional lives. Students get to experience and feel life in a foreign country that may have different values and ways of life than their own countries by studying abroad.
Individuals develop balanced perspectives of other people as a result of the knowledge and experience gained by interacting with people of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
This is especially crucial in the employment market, since multinational firms, the largest employers, are continually looking for dynamic personnel who can fit into any ethnic or cultural group. Furthermore, the experience gained from engaging with people from various cultures while studying abroad helps people get a better understanding of how the world operates.
Studying abroad also provides many possibilities that are difficult to come by in one's home country. Students have the opportunity to learn new and exciting languages while attending modern institutions with cutting-edge laboratories, cutting-edge library services, and the best computer facilities available. This may be a difficult request to make of local educational institutions.
These prospects promise the pupils of excelling in life due to the simple yet substantial rationale for studying in certified learning institutions. It is critical to remember that the ability to communicate in a variety of languages is a valuable asset in the work market.
Students in nations such as the United Kingdom, Japan, and the United States can work while studying. In many other countries, where graduates struggle to find cleaning work, such an opportunity may be severely limited — as a result, studying abroad may come with a decent chance of landing a career.
There are various drawbacks to studying abroad. Culture shock is one of the most difficult drawbacks. Some students have a difficult time adapting to or assimilating to the cultures of other countries. As a result, their tenure in such countries is fraught with challenges.
For example, some meals that are considered delicacies in other countries may be considered taboo in local ones. Culture shock is exacerbated by some religious and cultural dogmas. Suicide is a common cause of death among students studying abroad due to culture shock.
In addition to culture shock, many students experience severe homesickness when studying overseas. Because many are unable to handle or adjust to the quick pace of life in foreign nations, this actively serves to hinder them from realizing their long-held aspirations. Communication difficulties have also been noted as a drawback of studying abroad.
If students are unable to communicate in the host country's official language, they will undoubtedly confront difficulties. Furthermore, due to hefty tuition fees and other costs associated with plane travel and upkeep, studying abroad is regarded to be an extremely costly endeavor. As a result, many students who would otherwise desire to study abroad consider it beyond of reach.
Overall, there are numerous advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad. The bottom line is that students who want to study abroad must thoroughly prepare themselves before boarding the next plane to take them there. As described in the article, studying abroad opens up a world of possibilities that are otherwise unavailable in one's home country.
However, if appropriate preparation is not factored in, some of the repercussions of studying abroad may be lethal. Students who intend to study abroad must therefore do their best to gather information on a wide range of issues that are addressed in host nations. There are established agencies that can help students learn more about the countries they may want to visit for study purposes.
