Task 2
There is a common belief that children at young ages should distinguish between right and wrong and punishment is the best assistant to teach this. To a certain extent I agree that punishment is irreplaceable in children’s development of well manners, on the other hand, I also think that physical chastisement should be eliminated as it may lead to mental issues and complexes in behavior.
Initially, parents always want the best for their children and try to raise them as well-behaving and gentle individuals. Meanwhile, children are generally curious at early ages and it urges them to try out new experiences without considering its negative effects. Besides, youngsters at the early stages of childhood are very perceptive and their brains easily pick up every sort of information. On these occasions, implementing certain kinds of punishment can be beneficial in developing children’s manners. A proper punishment may also be a good lesson to them not to repeat the action. In my viewpoint, punishment must be used only on the purpose of teaching good morality but not contain any personal enmity or frustration.
On the other hand, there are particular states in the world, mostly in underdeveloped or Eastern ones, where parents misuse the designation of punishment and try physical penalty to give a good lesson for their off-springs. Physical abuse like beating, spurning or slapping causes a lot of pain and sufferings to fragile bodies of infants. In addition, physical assail often result in a bunch of mental problems like anxiety, isolation, panic attacks and general distrust in people. What’s more, children who endured physical sentences in childhood often face inferiority complex: they start feeling less capable, less attractive and less communicative.
Disjunctively, there are inoffensive types of punishment that are useful and do not damage children’s psychology. For instance, taking away the gadgets by parents when child plays videogames for too long, or if they do not complete homework, making them clean the classroom can be a wholesome punishment by teachers. Another example is depriving them from money for spending it for cigarettes or other harmful items.
In conclusion, while I claim that punishment is necessary in children’s upbringing and developing exemplary manners, I firmly affirm that this activity should not hurt their bodies and minds.
Task 2
Some people believe that university students should choose themselves which subjects to study on the strength of their personal interests, while the rest claim that students only need to study the fields advantageous for their future perspective. In this essay I will discuss both viewpoints and share my personal opinion.
Let us first examine the reasons why some people hold the opinion that students should not have to study all the subjects and should be allowed to choose the subjects they want to study. They opine that in this case the students will probably be more enthusiastic about their study. In addition, if students are forced to study all subjects, they can easily lose interest in education. What is more, if all subjects are compulsory for studying, students will not have enough time to learn all of them properly; therefore, they will be constantly under a lot of pressure.
However, in today’s competitive world, all subjects are of great importance and for the holistic development of the students they need to study all subjects equally at school level. Later on, upon admission to the colleges, students can select the subjects of their choice and can explore them further. Furthermore, nowadays, the job market is very demanding and the recruiters select students who are skilled in various fields. Having the basic knowledge of varied subjects during university time definitely widens the horizons for the students. To add to it, it is a well-known fact that most subjects are related to each other in some way or the other. For example, a basic knowledge of mathematics is needed to excel in computer languages.
Finally, I believe that it is up to students which subjects to master, as learning the field they are not interested in may put a lot of tension on them, simultaneously repulsing from their major and reducing enthusiasm towards studying at all.
