3. Explanation of the new theme: (15 min)
Objectives: to introduce the using of the definite article with adjectives


Warm up / lead in
Pre-stage: to revise previous lesson which they have learnt


While stage: Cluster (based on previous lessons)
In this task each group do activities about using definite article when they can or can’t
Post-stage: a) Presentation of groups
b) Class feedback
c) Assessing group answers


Explain the new theme:

It is the most delicious ice cream I have ever had

  • Certain adjectives can be used with the as nouns to refere to groups of people in general. These are:

  • elderly, middle, aged, old, young, blind, dead, deaf, disabled , living, sick, homeless, hungry, poor, rich, strong, unemployed, weak, etc.

  • e.g. The young have a lot of energy.(We refer to young people in general)
