27 GETTING TO GRIPS WITH SCHOOL ISSUES
––
Volume: Was it clear and loud enough?
Clarity: Did the speaker hold your attention? (Each of the above sections is to be
marked out of five.) I usually hold a class discussion after the talks. I ask students
to say what was good about the talk. I ask them to tell me why they had given a
student a particular mark. They can also suggest how a particular student can
improve his/her mark. If students disagree about a particular verdict, it promotes an
interesting discussion. They are then encouraged to look at the criteria and come
up with a fair mark.
