Guidelines have the goal of supporting the
development of small-scale fisheries and fishing
communities through a human-rights-based
approach to fisheries that is socially, economically
and environmentally sustainable. Achieving this
goal will require substantial support and
collaboration from a variety of partners,
including governments, small-scale fisheries
organizations, development partners, research/
academia and NGOs. A key element in building
the case for this support is better illuminating
the diverse contributions and impacts of these
fisheries, and providing credible evidence in a
way that communities and advocates can use
to make a strong case for support to the sector,
also supporting the achieving of the SDGs, in
