I’m sitting  in  the same  room  as my  mother who  is  watching  The  Weakest  Link
and I can’t help but look up and answer the odd question.
I realise that the ‘God having a second son who was an electrician’ stuff might
be great for a surrealist comic to riff on but the comic I’m writing for isn’t that
surreal.
I finally find an angle on the awards being the Oscars of the building industry...
Would the audience of builders be phoning each other up to ask ‘who are
you wearing?’
Then I wonder whether builders even understand that line? Whatever – I’ll give
it to the comic and she can decide.
I  phone  her  up  from  my  mother’s  and  give  her  everything  I  have  so  far.  She
seems  thrilled  that  I  have  got  anything  at  all.  I  tell  her  I’m  driving  back
tomorrow, having the next day running errands and can be on the case again on
Tuesday.
Monday
The comic texts me to say she’s written a joke based on the X Factor line.
I hear they’re looking for the X Factor. I hope your careers last longer than
the ones on the show.
