The main requirements for organising remote 
sensing  monitoring  of   irrigated  salt-  affected 
soils  were  defined  by  specialists  from  the 
Dokuchaev Soil Science Institute (Moscow, 
Russia) as a result of  their long- term research 
in Uzbekistan. Despite the fact that most of  
this research was conducted in the 1990s, the 
data obtained are still relevant and serve as a 
basis for the present paper. The establishment 
of  a monitoring system on irrigated soils is still 
one of  the primary challenges of  the ecological 
and agricultural sciences.
