Comments on the uses of the Past Simple:
1.Your mother phoned a few minutes ago. 2. Who opened this window? 3. I learnt to swim as a child. 4. We went out for a meal every evening on holiday. 5. He got up at 7 o'clock every morning to go to work. 6. He smoked for most of his life. 7. She worked there for twenty years.8. In 1950, there were fewer than 50 million cars in use around the world. At the time, I had a poorly-paid job in the local shop.

Past continuous tense

S +to be (was /were) + V­­­­­ ^1ing		I/he/she was reading a book when you came.
S + to be (was /were) +not + V­­­­­ ^1ing		We/you/they were not reading a book when you came.
To be (was /were)+ S + V­­­­­ ^1ing...?		Was he reading a book when you came?
Wh+ to be (was /were)+ S + V­­­­­ ^1ing...?		Where were they reading a book when you came?

I/he/she was reading We/you/they were not reading Was he reading?

Key words -at 5 , at noon, at midnight, at midnight, all day, from 5 till 8+ past Simple

C: ishlatilishi: 1. O‘tgan zamonda ma’lum bir vaqtda bajarilayotgan ish – xarakatni ko’rsatadi.

2. When bog’lovchisi bilan o’tgan zamonda bajarilayotgan, sodir bo’layotgan ish xarakat davomida 2 bir ish xarakatning sodir bolishi. Bunda odatda uzoqroq vaqt oluvchi ish xarakat past continuous, qisqaroq vaqt oluvchi ish xarakat past simple da ishlatiladi. :

Past perfect tense

Key words: by 5 yesterday…, by that time, by Saturday, by the end of May, barely, earlier, scarcely, hardly,

no sooner

S + found+ that+ S + had+V3 learned understood discovered felt realized They found that they had lost their way. She understood that she had made mistake.

Scarcely + past perfect _____,before S+ v2 No sooner +had+S +V3 ____, then S+ V2 Hardly + had+S +V3______,when S+ V2 No sooner had he arrived , then he became ill.

C: ishlatilishi:

1) O’tgan zamonda ma’lum bir vaqtgacha bajarilgan ish –xarakatni ko’rsatadi (by bilan):

They had finished the work by 5 o’clock yesterday.

2) O’tgan zamonda bir ish –xarakat bo’lgunga qadar, tugagan ikkinchi bir ish –xarakatni ko’rsatish uchun (qo’shma gaplarda):

a) when +S+ V2, S+ had + V3

When he came, I had finished my work We had eaten the meal, when Komil came.

b) S+had + V3 by the time + S+ V2____,

By the time he came We had had dinner

c) S + V2+ after + S + had +V3

He went to school after he had had breakfast

d) S + had +V3 + before +S + V2

He had finished his work before his mother came

AMMO: Bir ish xarakat haqida gap ketayotgan bo’lsa past Simple da ishlatiladi.

We ate the meal.

3. O’zlashtirma gap tarkibida bosh gap kesimi o’tgan zamonda bo’lsa present perfect signal so’zlari past perfect da ishlatiladi.

S +said, asked…+ S + had +V3… resently, already, never, twice…

He said he had already finished his hometask.

4.when bilan since past perfect (continuous) ga o’tishi mumkin.

I hadn’t seen him since we left school when I saw him at the party.

It had been raining since morning when we went out.
Commentss on the use of the past simple tense:
1. When Sarah arrived at the party, Paul had already gone home. 2. When we got home last night, we found that somebody had broken into the flat. 3. Karen didn't want to go to the cinema with us because she'd already seen the film. 4. At first I thought I'd done the right thing, but I soon realised that I'd made a big mistake. 5. The man sitting next to me on the plane was very nervous. He hadn't flown before. or ... He had never flown before.
