Once they had developed a key skill, they would then identify the one skill that
could  help  them  to  advance  further.  Their  entire  career  ladder  consisted  of
mastering  each  key  skill,  one  at  a  time,  until  the  “compound  effect”  took  over,
and they moved rapidly upward in their jobs.
