To scold (v.)/scold (n.)
Definition(s):
1. (verb) to criticize usually severely or angrily
2. (noun) one who scolds habitually or persistently


Example(s): (verb) My mother scolded me for not cleaning the dishes after dinner yesterday, and forced me to wash not only my dishes, but the whole family’s dishes after dinner today.


Murmur (n.)
Definition(s): a low indistinct but often continuous sound


Example(s): When the teacher announced a new assignment, you could hear a murmur move through the class as the students quietly discussed their ideas for the assignment.


Postmaster (n.)
Definition(s): one who has charge of a post office


To give a hand (v.)
Definition(s): to help


Example(s): The storeowner asked the strong men nearby to give him a hand to unload the goods off the delivery truck.


Hesitation (n.)/to hesitate (v.)
Definition(s):
1. (noun) an act or instance of holding back in doubt or indecision.
2. (verb) to hold back in doubt or indecision.


Example(s):
1. The confident student answered the question with no hesitation.
2. I initially hesitated before I decided to run to catch the train in the metro, and because I hesitated for one moment, I missed the train and had to wait for the next on.
