When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we

And something similar happens with almost every utterance attributed to Jesus: You can never know [in 
advance] whether it must be understood in a literal sense, or whether it should be viewed in an allegorical 
fashion. In other words, Was Jesus sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel? (“… 
I am not sent but 
unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel
”- Matthew 15:24, KJV). Would Christians believers never 
experience death? (“Verily, verily, I say unto you, 
If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death
”- John 
8:51). Would John remain alive until Jesus return? (“Jesus saith unto him, 
If I will that he tarry till I come, 
what is that to thee?
”- John 21:22). 
Would Christian persecutions last only ten days? (“Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, 
the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and
