Actuality of the study
Due to the high prevalence of OA, the problem of effective treatment of the disease remains very urgent. To date, many mechanisms of the pathogenesis of the disease have already been deciphered. For a number of years, drugs with a pathogenetic focus of action have been used in the treatment of OA. First of all, these are chondroitin sulfate (CS) and glucosamine (GA). As you know, CS and GA are characterized by both similar and different, complementary influences on the pathogenesis of OA. In this regard, their joint use in the composition of combined drugs is very promising. This is the drug "Artra", containing 500 mg of CS and GA.
Materials and methods
The study of the effectiveness of the drug "Artra" in OA included 56 patients with a predominant lesion of the knee joints. The average age of the patients was 52.6 years, the average duration of the disease was 6.4 years. Stage I of gonarthrosis occurred in 16 (29%), II - in 25 (45%), II - in 15 (26%) patients. Women made up 86% of the surveyed. The drug was prescribed in the recommended doses. The course of treatment was 6 months. Before treatment and after its completion, Efficiency was assessed by VAS (visual analogue scale), functional index WOMAC (Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis index), the need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was assessed, and a general assessment of the effectiveness of treatment by the patient and the doctor was carried out.
Results
All patients completed the treatment with "Artra". Evaluation of the results showed a decrease in the index WOMAC (pain), an improvement in joint function in 88% of patients, more pronounced in stages I and II of OA. The pain significantly decreased (in 62%), or the need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs has completely disappeared (in 38% of patients.) The overall assessment of the effectiveness of treatment coincided with the doctor and the patients.
Conclusion
So, the drug “Artra” is effective in OA, it can be included in the complex therapy of OA.
