The Aral sea

The Aral sea.

Fourth largest inland sea in the world which provided the vital ecosystem services to society untill 1990s, Aral sea was put down to bad long-term planning. Below its causes and affects will be showed:

It is obvious that Aral sea supplied people with water for irrigation in spring and summer. Furthermore it kept the climate in a normal condition. However, 60 years of intensive agriculture and pollution by the Soviet Union, had died out Aral sea. In addition, the sea got one of the 5 part water from rainfull, the rest of them were delivered to the sea by two rivers Amudarya and Syrdarya. But in the 1960s, according to Soviet Union's redirection, large part of these 2 rivers was used for agriculture which caused to dry the sea. After a while, southern region of it had already been lost cause which means it scaled down. As a result, the sea split in two parts by 1990.

Using water for agriculture instead of delivering it to the sea, caused a myriad of problems to natural plants, animal life, becoming the water over-salty as well as changing regions' climate. High-salty water killed animals in the sea as well as plant like fauna and flora.Another cause is climate, in some regions, it heated up incredibly which urged many farmer to switch from cotton to rice. Of course, it demanded even more diverted water.

As the problem of Aral sea is not one nation's problem, it is the whole world's problem, lots of pressure groups try to run up against this problem, thinking it through. One said using less water to irritate crops could restore the entire Aral sea. However, people used it up which means there is no work to struggle to restore the sea again.

It can be concluded that instead of trying to restore lost cause, people should pay attention to other global problems. The most obvious reason for that is we can not find a solution to the disposal of the Aral sea disaster.
