INTRODUCTION:
After independence, Uzbekistan needed a change in education and training. That`s why in those years the “National Program of Personnel Training” was adopted. The first president of our republic personally initiated in the National Program for Cadres Training. In consistent realization of the Low of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Education National Program of Personnel Training, significant place is reserved for construction of new schools, academic lyceums, vocational colleges, higher educational institution capital reconstruction and strengthening material-technical base of the existing ones, their provision with modern educational equipment.
The resolution of the president of Uzbekistan “On measures to further improve system of foreign language teaching” dated from 10 december 2012 is being implemented.
As for teaching young learners it is not an easy job. The young learners sometimes face some problems in learning English as foreign language. Consequently the teacher should be creative and become a good model in teaching English for their student. The objective of teaching English in elementary is to prepare children to have comparative value in the globalization Era and introduce English at early ages.
Vocabulary is central of language teaching and learning. Through vocabulary we can express ideas, emotions and desires. Besides that, through good command in teaching vocabulary on a certain language the students can express ideas effectively and efficiently.
To teach vocabulary in Elementary, especially for young learners, is not an easy way. Teaching young learner is different from teaching adults. We must have extra power to teach them, because the young learners have certain characteristic and need certain treatment. So we must give basic vocabulary to make them understand English. Before continuing the next step the teacher must have preparation to teach children, for example the teacher must prepare a media as the teaching tools.
In this paper, the writer would like to elaborate some theories and practice of teaching vocabulary by using English songs as the media. Dealing with the characteristic of young learner students, as it is stated by Murphy “teacher can use songs to teach vocabulary to students”. Song is one of appropriate ways to create a good atmosphere to make teaching and learning process fresh and interesting .
There are some reasons that make vocabulary is important to be learned. First, it will be hard for the learners if they must study English with limited words in their mind. Thus, learning vocabulary can help the learners to enrich their words in English. If they know those words, they can express their thought through English but if they do not know words in English they cannot write, read, speak anything in English. Second, it is impossible to teach spelling, pronunciation and grammar for the beginners if they do not know the words first. Those reasons make the writer can see how important to learn vocabulary for the EFL learners. Developing vocabulary will be great if it can be started from a young age. Young learners have some special characteristics that can make them easier in learning vocabulary. Children cannot learn by themselves, they need a good teacher to facilitate them in learning.
It is fact that it is very important for all people who learn a language to understand and improve vocabularies because the more vocabulary we know the better we can understand the meaning of the words.
To improve and enrich our vocabularies there are some ways, for example by vocabulary. Name animal, media picture to get many words. Teachers have the important role to build children’s vocabularies. They should know the factors in teaching such as methods, strategies, techniques, and materials, so that the teacher can convey the materials well in accordance with children’s characteristics.
According to Evan and Lang (2006) said that a good method was useless in teacher’s hand who did not know how to use it and a good teacher could not be effective if she/he used a bad method. Some experts have formulated some possible techniques that can be considered good and can be implemented to the TEYL, class especially in teaching vocabulary. The research is intended to discover of the teaching English vocabulary to young learners in a Elementary Padasuka 2, and to investigate the “The Teaching of English Vocabulary to Young Learners. Based on the description above, this study highlights teacher’s difficulties in teaching English vocabulary to young learners in the classroom. And to cope with the difficulties English teacher can possibly design suitable teaching techniques to be implemented in their classes. The research is intended to discover of the teaching English vocabulary to young learners investigate the techniques used by some the teaching of English vocabulary to young learners.
