In 1954 the Margilan Teachers 'Institute was moved to Termez, the capital of Surkhandarya region and was called the Termez Teachers' Institute. The Termez Teachers' Institute started its activities in 1954-1955 with four departments: Uzbek language and literature, Russian language and literature, physics and mathematics, natural sciences and chemistry. 187 students graduated for the first time. The Termez Teachers' Institute was renamed into Termez State Pedagogical Institute in the beginning of 1956-1957 school year.
