Objectives:

  to evaluate students’ level of mastering the theoretical material on the theme discussed;

  to foster students willingness and readiness to explore various aspects of English composite sentence and text preparing them for further scientific research on the issues of the theory of grammar.

   The compound sentence; its main characteristics. Different views on compound sentence in Modern Grammar.

   The complex sentence; its classification and main characteristics.

   *Direct and indirect speech in ME.
   
5. 
   Text as the highest syntactic unit. The main problems of text linguistics. The notion of discourse.
