III. Conclusion (usually one paragraph)
A. Reaffirm thesis: don’t use exact same sentence as thesis, but remind reader of main idea
B. Finish with broad point or generalization, suggestion for the reader, prediction for the future, rhetorical question, etc.
C. Don’t bring up new ideas/analyses/points regarding your thesis in conclusion; all support should stay in body of essay
Recommendations

  • Provide daily time for students to write

  • Teach students to use the writing process for a variety of purposes

  • Teach students the writing process

  • Guide students to select and use appropriate writing strategies.

  • Encourage students to be flexible in using components of the writing process

  • Help students understand the different purposes of writing, typing and word processing

  • Teach students to become fluent with handwriting, spelling, sentence construction, typing and word processing

  • Teach students techniques for writing effectively for different purposes

  • Teach students to construct sentences for fluency, meaning and style

  • Teach students to spell words correctly

  • Provide students with opportunities to give and receive feedback
