INRODUCTION

The government of Uzbekistan has always been trying to support scientists, linguists, researchers, the youth and all who are contributing to develop of our country. “Billions of people around the globe are desperately trying to learn English –not simply for self-improvement, but as an economic necessity. It is easy to take for granted being born in the country where people speak the lingua of global business, but for people in emerging economics such as China, Russia, and Brazil, where English is not the official language, good English is a critical tool, which people rightly believe that it will help them tap into new opportunities at home and abroad”¹.

Listening is one of four Basic English language skills which also include writing, reading, and speaking. These basic skills are divided into receptive skill (listening and reading) and productive skill (speaking and writing). Listening is the activity of paying attention to the speaker and trying to find meaning from something that is heard (Underwood, 1989:1). Listening is the most crucial language skill and a part of communication since it allows us to convey our thoughts with others. "Listening is the major component in language learning and teaching," says Brown (2001:24), "since in the classroom learners do more listening than speaking." It suggests that listening is crucial in everyday life.
