In the UK election are held every five years. (The Prime Minister may decide to hold one after four years. But five years is maximum.)

Some countries have a system of proportional representation: this means in theory, that a political party with 30% of the party should get 30% of the seats in votes. In the UK, the political system is different: here the winner takes all. This means that the person with the most votes in each political area (called a constituency) wins the seat and the political power which wins a majority of the seats will form the government on their own. As a result of this system, it is possible for a party to be in Parliament with only 40 % of the total vote. Some people think this system is unfair.

Task III. What do you think? What possible reasons could there be to justify this system?

I think I don’t have enough knowledge about politics, but I will try to give my opinion to this system, I think it is normal system because as the mentioned in text below in the UK the winner takes all, in the UK most parties will have an individual leader ( some parties choose to nominate one or more “spokesepersons” rather than having a “leader”). Leaders of the main parties will be those parties “candidates” for the post of Prime Ministerial candidate” since the Prime Minister is appointed by the monarch rather than being elected directly. Therefore the leadr will be choosen it means the parties will be ready to this kind of system.
