About computer

Computer components
A computer is a digital electronic machine that can be
programmed to automatically perform sequences of
arithmetic or logical operations (calculations). Modern
computers can perform common sets of operations known
as programs. These
programs allow
computers
to
perform a wide
range of tasks. A
computer system
is a "complete"
computer
that
includes
hardware
support, an operating system (basic software support)
and peripheral equipment necessary and used for "full"
operation. The term can also refer to a group of computers
that are connected and function together, such as a
computer network or computer cluster.
A wide range of industrial and consumer products use
computers as control systems. This includes simple
special-purpose devices such as microwaves and remote

controls, as well as
factory devices such as
industrial robots and
computer-aided design
systems, as well as
general-purpose devices
such
as
personal
computers and mobile
devices
such
as
smartphones. Computers
power
the
Internet,
which connects billions of
other computers and users.
Early computers were intended only for computing.
Simple hand tools such as abacus have helped people do
calculations since ancient times. At the beginning of the
industrial Revolution, some mechanical devices were
created to automate long tedious tasks, such as guiding
patterns for weaving machines. More sophisticated
electrical machines were doing specialized analog
computing in the early 20th century. The first digital
electronic computers were developed during the Second
World War. The first semiconductor transistors in the
late 1940s were followed by silicon-based MOSFETs
(MOS transistor) and monolithic integrated circuits (IC)
chip technology in the late 1950s, leading to the
microprocessor and microcomputer revolution in the

1970s. Since then, the speed, power, and versatility of
computers have increased dramatically, and the number of
transistors has increased rapidly (as predicted by Moore's
law), leading to the digital revolution in the late 20th and
early 21st centuries.
