Hydrophilicity, hydrophobicity - the properties of solids (bodies), characterizing their ability to interact with water. The numerical measure of hydrophilicity is the binding energy of water molecules with the surface of the body, which is determined by the heat of wetting, if a solid is insoluble. Hydrophobicity is considered as a small degree of hydrophilicity, since between molecules of water and any body there are always more or less intermolecular attraction forces. Finishing of textile materials in order to increase hydrophilicity is called hydrophilization, to reduce hydrophilicity - hydrophilization.
