Criterion Definition
1. Malar rash
Fixed erythema over the malar eminence, tending to spare
the nasolabial folds
2. Discoid rash
Erythematous raised patches with keratotic scaling and
follicular plugging
3. Photosensitivity
Self-reported or observed rashes caused by unusual
reaction to sunlight
4. Oral ulcers
Observed oral or nasopharyngeal ulceration
5. Arthritis
Nonerosive arthritis involving two or more peripheral
joints
6. Serositis
Pleuritis or pericarditis
7. Renal
disorder
Persistent proteinuria >0.5g/day or cellular casts
8. Neurologic
disorder
Seizures or psychosis
9. Hematologic
disorder
Hemolytic anemia, leukopenia, lymphopenia or
thrombocytopenia
10. Immunologic
disorder
Anti-DNA antibodies, anti-Sm antibodies, aPL
antibodies, or false positive test for syphilis
