Zanjir pickerel- Esox Niger
Ko’zining ostida kuchli qora vertical chiziqlari bo’ladi. U 39 dyum uzunlikda. Ular ko’llar, botqoqliklar va quyi va o’rta daryolarda topilgan.
Grass pickerel- Exosamericanus
Quyida oq Amber, qanotlari sariq yashil. Bosh tuzilishi toq kurrasimon. Ko’zining ostida qorachiziqlar iorqa tomonga yunalgan. Uzunligi 15 dyum. Ko’llar, botqoqliklar va sekinoqadigan havzalardauchraydi¹. (Zappler, 2007)
Pikes and Pickerels — Family Esocidae Members of this family are long, sleek, predatory fishes with a large, fixed mouth lined with sharp teeth. They are liein-wait hunters that prey on other fish. The snout is duckbill-like. Dorsal and anal fins are located far back on the body. Esocids are mostly north-temperate species native to Eurasia and North America. Of the approximately 10 species in this family, three occur in Texas. One, the Northern Pike, Esoxlucius, has been introduced to several northern reservoirs in the state, while the other two, the Grass Pickerel and the Chain Pickerel (see below) are native to east Texas.
Chain Pickerel — Esoxniger Green chainlike pattern on yellow side (adult), wave lines on young. The strong black bar below the eye is vertical. To 39 inches. Found in vegetated lakes, swamps and backwaters of creeks and small to medium rivers. Range in Texas: eastern Texas drainages of the Red and Sabine basins.
Grass Pickerel — Esoxamericanus Dark olive above, numerous dark green to brown wavy bars along side of adult; amber to white below; yellow green fins; long narrow dished-in (concave) snout. Black bar below eye slants toward rear. To 15 inches. Frequents lakes, swamps and sluggish pools of streams. Range in Texas: eastern Texas from Red River basin south to the Brazos River basin.
