SUMMER CREW RANGES REGION – INFORMATION SHEET
Positions will be offered as either a Temporary Contract or Casual Employment until 30th April 2010, located at ForestySA’s Kuitpo or Mount Crawford Depot’s.
Duties
Primarily required as a fire crew member for fire standby, fire fighting and associated training. Employees will be required to perform general forest maintenance, establishment and protection duties. The duties of this position will at times require the preparation and maintenance of records and an understanding and ability to apply quality control techniques in forest work.
Hours
Normal working hours 8am – 5pm
Fire standby will be based on forecasted forest fire danger.
Fire fighting working hours will be as required.
Fire training hours will be as arranged by Operations Coordinator.
Casual positions primarily required on the weekends.
Award
Employed under ForestrySA’s Administrative Agreement 2007, FMW Level 3.
Special Conditions -
Primarily required for fire fighting duties. Will be required to perform normal forest maintenance duties during the week.

Must be available for fire standby and fire fighting outside and during normal working hours, which includes weekends and public holidays.

Required to provide own transport to work location.

Must wear regulation safety equipment and footwear as required.

ForestrySA will provide induction training and training on ForestrySA equipment and procedures during initial period of employment.

As part of its OHS&W program, ForestrySA has a smoke free workplace. As such, smoking of any type is prohibited during working hours and covering entire forest depots, information centres and office areas.
Essential Requirements -
Preparedness to undertake all training as offered.
-
Demonstrated physical capacity to undertake a wide range of Forestry activities.
-
Demonstrated capacity to pass fire fighter fitness assessment ‘Field Test’ level (to walk 3.22km carrying 11.3kg in 30 minutes).
-
Ability to exercise judgement and initiative in performance of work.
-
Current drivers licence.
-
Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
Desirable Requirements -
CFS Level One.

Experience in using two-way radio equipment.
-
Self motivated.
-
Demonstrated ability to work under general direction as a team member or as an individual.
-
Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
-
Previous experience in forest work.
-
Fire Fighting Experience.
-
Chainsaw Level 1 Certificate.

Current Senior First Aid Certificate.
-
Current Class LT or HT drivers licence.

Experience with Heavy Machinery e.g. Tractors, Dozers, Graders, Loaders
