Thanks to the advances made in technology, it has penetrated every aspect of our lives, including the way we teach and learn. While some people hold that books should be completely abandoned in school curriculums and they should be replaced with computers and video lessons, I overall feel that books are still vital.

Admittedly, modern gadgets can come in handy for students to search information online. As a first point, they offer a mountain of information about a wide array of topics, and thanks to the wide accessibility of the internet, it is hardly difficult for them to find what they need in just few clicks. Additionally, computers defy the time limit. That is to say, books are generally consisted of ‘endless’ pages, which means students do not have the opportunity of finding specific information whenever they need, whereas the reverse is true when they make use of video films and computers; therefore, students do not have to read the whole book in order to acquire the information they want, which can, in turn, help them save time and energy. In these cases, state-of-the-art technologies can obviously be a great aid.

Nonetheless, this does not mean that books have lost their importance. To begin with, computers and watching video films can be inefficient and also bring about eyesight problems according to scientists. However, books are easy on students’ eyes, and flipping through the pages can be enjoyable, thus increasing one’s productivity. Furthermore, students cannot always concentrate on their studies when there is a free usage of computers in the fields of their study. Because, they can somehow lead to distraction between students in their non-education fields, especially gaming and entertaining. Regarding books, on the other hand, they can somewhat motivate people. Hence, books are still here to stay.

In conclusion, recent gadgets, such as computers tend to be very advantageous in learning efficiently. However, I hold that this does not mean books are unnecessary, as they provide students with enjoyable reading time and a sense of motivation.
