Defense mechanisms
A defense mechanism is a tactic developed by the ego to protect against anxiety. Defense mechanisms are thought to safeguard the mind against feelings and thoughts that are too difficult for the conscious mind to cope with.
방어의 성숙
Psychotic defense(정신병적 방어)= psychic processes involving unconscious, or more-or-less conscious, attempts to deal with reality. They take the form of disavowal or withdrawal as the subject tries to avoid or circumscribe conflicts encountered in his relationship with the external world.
Mature (성숙한 적응기제) - Rather than concealing internal conflicts in the context of a problem or scapegoating oneself or others, they are creatively transforming the problem situation so that they use tactics that benefit not only themselves but also those around them.
Neurotic (신경증적인 적응기제) - Compromise with inner conflict or realistic problems by sacrificing self in problem situations
Immature (미성숙한 적응기제) - Victimize others to resolve their inner psychological conflicts


정신병적 방어
Delusional projection(망상적 투사)= Delusions about external reality, usually of a persecutory nature. 악마가 그녀의 성기에 레이저 광선을 쏘고 있다고 신부님에게 보고(Tell the priest that the devil is shooting laser beams into her crotch)
Denial(부인)= Refusal to accept external reality because it is too threatening; arguing against an anxiety-provoking stimulus by stating it does not exist; resolution of emotional conflict and reduction of anxiety by refusing to perceive or consciously acknowledge the more unpleasant aspects of external reality. Peggy, a 16-year-old student at a convent school, ignores her boyfriend's existence.
Distortion(왜국)=  A gross reshaping of external reality to meet internal needs. Telling people that famous rock star proposed to her.


성숙한 기제
Sublimation (승화) - is a defense mechanism that allows us to act out unacceptable impulses by converting these behaviors into a more acceptable form. For example, a person experiencing extreme anger might take up kick-boxing as a means of venting frustration. Freud believed that sublimation was a sign of maturity that allows people to function normally in socially acceptable ways.
