- THE STRATEGY FOR DEVELOPING OF BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH LAB
The portfolio of biomedical research lab (BML) of University of Prishtina will be addressed to the objectives and development priorities of The National Research Programme of the Republic of Kosova approved by National Research Council of Kosova in 2010 and educational and research priorities of University of Prishtina (UP).
The specific science and educational targets which are needed to support the development of biomedical research lab of University of Prishtina are:
Objective 1: Development of human capacity for research activities
Objective 2: Development of research infrastructure and quality standards
Objective 3: Internationalization of scientific research activity in terms of internationalization of Medical and Natural Science Faculty of UP.
Objective 4: Strengthening the links between science and health and economy for enhancing the health, economic and social development
Objective 5: Excellence in research and scientific activity
Objective 1

Development of human capacity for research activities

Targets
|
By 2013 at least 50 candidates will be trained for equipment use and establishing the scientific methodology.
By 2013 all students of Medical faculty will undergo the practical courses in the framework of Curriculum activities of Medical Faculty of Prishtina (Basic of Scientific - research methodology)
By 2013 at least 20 candidates from Kosovo will pursue PhD experimental work.
By 2013 at least 10 candidates will receive support to pursue post-doctoral research project.
15 short-term joint mobility grants for active researchers

Action
|
For the developing the high quality research programs in Kosovo is requested the well trained staff which be able to apply the scientific methodology and proper handling with equipment (Good Research Practices and Good Clinical Practice). This target will be accomplished by training courses for scientific staff planned to work in the BML of UP.
The Curriculum of Medical Faculty of Prishtina determines the need of each student to undergo the lectures and practice in the Basic of Scientific - research methodology.
Support completion of PhD studies performing the research projects which will be approved by Ethics Committee and responsible decision makers of BML of UP.
Facilitate participation of post-doctoral candidates for performing the research activities in the BML of UP.
Provide support for short-term joint mobility projects of Kosovar
researchers which will develop a part of research in the BML.

Implementation of the legal infrastructure (framework)
Establishing the laboratory methodologies and discipline laboratories which should be accredited.

Action

2.1. Implementation the current Law on Scientific Research and make necessary adjustments to meet the needs of the society and approximate legislation to the one applied in EU countries.
2.2. Establish the BML Program to channel governmental funding for research laboratories and equipment on justified need and national research priorities. Establishing the discipline laboratories in the field of Physiology, Pharmacology and Experimental surgery.
2.3. Develop the RTD information system. Initially is planned to set up the inter-disciplinary expert group to develop ToRs for the system including the type of information needed, flexibility, language policy, etc.
2.4. Provide access to relevant electronic libraries.

Internationalization of scientific research activity in terms of internationalization of Medical and Natural Science Faculty of UP.

Support for the publication of a considerable number of scientific publications in international journals
Facilitation of joint research projects with foreign institutions
Improved cooperation with our researchers working abroad.
Enhanced participation in international research networks in accordance with targets of UP.

3.1. Establish a Publication Support Program as conduit for Kosovar scientists for publishing in international journals.
3.2. Provide support for developing joint research projects (Preparation of projects protocols, consultancy).
3.3. Using eventual Brain - Gain Program of Kosovo.
3.4. Provide support for participation in international research networks, notably in the European Framework Programme.

Strengthening the links between science and health and economy for enhancing the health, economic and social development

Targets
|
Establishment of an applied research and technological development (RTD) programme for supporting science-health relations and science-economy relation.
Establishment of an innovation programme to meet the health priorities, economic and social innovation needs of the Ministry of Health and private sector (business, NGO)

4.1. Establishment of a working group involving representatives from science, health, education and business to prepare the rules and regulations of a systemic applied RTD programme oriented towards technology transfer.
4.2. Launch calls for proposal under this applied RTD programme

5.1.To build the quality assurance mechanisms in the field of research

5.4. Develop quality assurance mechanisms in the field of research, like manuals for indexing of publications, manuals for safe disposable of laboratory waste, etc.
