CHALLENGES FOR PRIVATE MEDIA IN KAZAKHSTAN 
 
Abstract. The purpose of the study was to overview the publications in online media covering 
the impact governmental public information orders have on the healthy media market 
competition in Kazakhstan. The qualitative research employed a narrative review of mass 
media online publications on the impact governmental public information orders have on the 
media market. The significant findings were that the information orders supported only the 
big public media. The put the private media in the challenging competing environment.

Introduction 
The dynamics of media development in Kazakhstan puts forward new challenges 
in front of journalism in the country. The variety of formats with which people follow 
the news today provides infinitely vast opportunities for those journalists, editors and 
investors who are brave to ride the wave of technological media development. 
However, the establishment of a media comes with two distinct challenges of media 
financing and quality of those who enter the profession of journalism in Kazakhstan. 
Therefore, the study explores the existing scientific literature as well as professionals' 
opinions in the media on the influence of governmental public information orders and 
the adequacy of journalism education in Kazakhstan.
