We must distinguish between cryptog-
raphy (Greek. 
Kryptos, 
hidden) and Steg 
monograph of (Gr. 
Steganos, 
covered). 
The term 
cryptography, 
within the mean-
ing of 
the CE kretnost when recording 
was 
used in 1641 by John Wilkins, the basis of 
Telem (with John Wallis) of the Royal 
Society; the word «cryptography» was 
coined in 1658 by Thomas Brown, a 
famous English physician and writer. The 
purpose of cryptography is to make the 
message incomprehensible to the lay 
reader: 
ars occulte scribendi 
(the art of 
secret writing). It’s about 
an open secret 
record,
t. e. clearly races knowable as a 
confidential record.
The term 
steganography 
was also used 
in this sense Kaspa rum Schott, a disciple 
of Athanasius Kircher in the title of his 
book « 
the Schola Steganographia », 
pub-
lished in Nuremberg in 1665, however, 
already Trithemius ICs enjoyed his work 
in his first 
« Steganographia », 
launched in

ing”. Its methods are aimed at concealing

Cryptographic methods are suitable for 
keeping a personal diary or notebook: ex-
amples are numerous – from Samuel Pepis 
(1633-1703) to Alfred K. Kinsey (1894-
1956); These methods are also suitable as a 
remedy against excessive curiosity messen-
ger carrying of an important message. 
Steganographic same methods are more 
suitable for the transmission of messages 
from the prison: here is a list of examples is
