IFRS 5 Non-current Assets Held for Sale and Discontinued Operations classifies a 

non-current asset or a disposal group as held for sale if its carrying amount will 

be recovered principally through a sales transaction rather than through 

continuing use.

For Beth to classify Jam as a disposal group held for sale, the following criteria 

must all be met as at 30 November 20X7: 

• 

it must be actively marketed at a price which is reasonable compared to 

its fair value 

• 

an active programme to locate a buyer must have commenced 

• 

it must be available for immediate sale in its present condition, subject 

only to terms which are usual and customary
