VALERIE J. SHUTE is currently an associate professor in the Educational Psychology
and Learning Systems Department at Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306;

She joined Florida State University in 2007 and teaches grad-
uate students in the Instructional Systems program. Her research interests relate to
cognitive modeling/diagnosis, instructional system design, formative/stealth assess-
ment to support learning, and innovative evaluation methodologies, typically using
the structure and power of Bayes net technology to support the various efforts.
