The meaning of a particular linguistic unit cannot be understood independently of the cognitive context it is associated with. Cognitive contexts are known under various names: cognitive domains (Langacker, 1987), mental spaces (Fauconnier, 1994), frames (Fillmore, 1982).

3.2 Charles Fillmore and Frame semantics

• There are at least two historical roots of frame semantics; the first is linguistic Syntax and Semantics, especially Fillmore’s case grammar, the second is Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the notion of frame introduced by M. Minsky (1975) in this field of study.
