Discourse competence

Ability to recognize and interpret peculiarities of authentic professionally oriented discourses by their genre specificities within the framework of communicative settings based on the content of speech.

Strategic competence

В1 Can decide how to construct the speech logically, coherently and persuasively, setting goals and achieving them based on all available resources within routine, speciliased/professionally-oriented communicative settings based on the content of speech and can work out how to communicate the main point(s) he/she wants to get across, exploiting any resources available; can intervene in a discussion on a familiar topic, using a suitable phrase to get the floor; can use a simple word meaning something similar to the concept he/she wants to convey and invites correction; can foreignise a mother tongue word and ask for confirmation; can ask for confirmation that a form used is correct; can start again using a different tactic when communication breaks down ; can offer others saying how to act; can explain own point of view; understand what others are saying and can repeat what is said to check understanding.
В1+ Can use main set of language means and strategies for the sake of sustaining a conversation or a discussion; can summarise results of a discussion and thus concentrate on certain topic; understand what is said, though occasionally have to repeat or explain something if delivery is lengthy and rapid; can correct mix-ups with tenses or expressions that lead to misunderstandings provided the interlocutor indicates there is a problem; can define the features of something concrete for which he/she can’t remember the word; can convey meaning by qualifying a word meaning something similar (e.g. a truck for people = bus); can rehearse and try out new combinations and expressions, inviting feedback; can briefly comment on point of view of the interlocutors; can explain why something causes difficulty, discuss what to do further, compare and contrast options with each other.
