Troubleshooting Textures
On occasion, some textures will not render. This failure manifests on surfaces in one of three
appearances: black, no color (gray or white), or displayed as a different texture already applied
in the model. Fixing these problems is part of the evaluation process.
apply to Both Sides of Surface
SketchUp faces have two sides. The first approach is to
apply the texture to the other side of the incorrect surface. This might require maneuver-
ing underneath or through the model surfaces.

Chapter 21: Texture Values
apply a New Texture/Reapply the Texture
You might need to apply a new texture to the
surface. Do not swap the texture. Apply a new color and link the appropriate texture file as
outlined in Chapter 8.
Components and Groups
Colors and textures applied to the outside of a component
group can dominate other textures. In this case, select the component or group with the
SketchUp Material Eye Dropper and apply the default/noncolor. This might cause some
surfaces in the component or group to lose their color or texture. Enter the component/
group instance and reapply the texture to blank surfaces as needed.

Part 5: The Iterative Rendering Process
R
esolution is a key part of the rendering process. Image resolution determines the size and
view of the rendering. Resolutions can be set for digital presentation (online or PowerPoint)
or printed output, such as 8-½
g
n
11
g
, 11
g
n
14
g
, and 11

. You can also set custom and
larger sizes.
Resolution has a direct effect on the rendering process: higher resolutions provide more
clarity but take longer to render, as discussed in Chapter 20. This chapter explains how to
determine resolution for your renderings.
