Imam Shashi - fakih
There are many sources confirming that Kaffal ash-Shashi was a 
fakih. He studied jurisprudence from some of the most respected jurists of 
his time. After some time, he also taught in madrassas and taught 
jurisprudence to students. His scholarly works on jurisprudence were 
widely circulated in the countries where Islam was spread during his 
lifetime. As we know, books on jurisprudence are divided into several 
categories and types. Several legal works have survived from Imam Shashi 
to our time. They are:

“Odob al-qazi” 
or 
“Adab ul-qazi” 
(
“The etiquette of judges”
).
This book deals with issues such as judges, who can be appointed to this 
position, what requirements must be met by those who are recommended

for such a position, the basics of the judicial activity, the conditions of such 
a position. This book is in the field of procedural law today. Its writing 
implies that Imam Shashi was aware of the issues of the judicial activity. 
Sheikh Muhammad Sadik Muhammad Yusuf mentioned this book in his 
book “Fikh directions and books”. According to some reports, Kaffal 
Shashi also served as a judge for some time. This, in turn, indicates that he 
was not only a theoretical fakih (lawyer), but also a lawyer (fakih) with 
experience in legal practice, including law enforcement practice.

“Husni Jadal” 
(
“The beauty of dialectics”
) or 
“Al-Jadal al-
Hasan”
(
“The good debate”
). It was written as a new branch of 
jurisprudence (fikh) in the 10th century, when it was still in its infancy. It 
is essentially written to address procedural law issues. This work of law 
can be the fundamental basis of the science of dialectics, which is still used 
by lawyers today and is widely used in legal practice. However, “Husni 
Jadal” has not yet been studied in detail by our scholars, including lawyers.
